The decision to engage in therapy can be a difficult one. One may consider if he really needs to seek out help or if she is really the one who needs to reach out. Perhaps it is another family member who "should" attend. The main reason why most people seek therapy is due to a change in life transitions. There are a few major life transitions to consider: young childhood, teenage years, young adulthood, and adulthood with children, and empty nesting/ageing. Each life transition comes with a "task to complete"; and that is what we work on together. The length of time in therapy depends on the individual or family needs, however, I believe by 6-8 sessions, people begin to feel better. One is to feel comfortable with his or her therapist, and should be willing to freely ask questions and receive clarification on pending issues. I hope your experience is full of health!
